Engraving
The word “engraving” refers to the process of carving or engraving a design into a hard surface – traditionally metal, wood or stone. In tattooing, it refers to a style that visually mimics this effect. The tattoo appears to be “etched” into the skin, much like ancient illustrations were engraved into metal or wooden plates.
The engraving style is inspired by old engravings from books, coins, and graphics from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. It is characterized by detail, fine line work, and a black and white aesthetic that mimics the look of historical metal or wood engravings.
Characteristics of the Engraving style
1. Fine lines and hatching: Thin lines and thick hatching (line shading) are used to create the impression of depth and shadow without the use of color.
2. Čiernobiele prevedenie: Tetovania sa robia prevažne čiernym atramentom bez farebných plôch, čím sa dosahuje efekt starých ilustrácií.
3. Historical motifs: Motifs inspired by mythology, nature, religion, portraits or symbols from past centuries are typical.
4. Artistic and classical style: This style appeals to people with an affinity for fine art, old books, and detailed craftsmanship.
